Röyksopp - So Easy/Eple

Time for our first blast from the past. Having recently bought Melody AM, the decade-old début album from Norwegian electro duo Röyksopp (despite being a big fan of their work I had never owned their first album), I was surprised to discover that I already knew the opener, "So Easy". Give it a listen and you probably have too.

With a vocal loop that borders on making it a creepy tune, sampled from the Gals & Pals cover version of Bobby Vinton's "Blue On Blue", the first ever Röyksopp album track gained fame from T-Mobile adverts and Channel 4 idents in the United Kingdom. If you're a British reader, then you've probably heard of this song before, and yet never knew it even existed ;)

Immediately following the opening track on Melody AM is this classic track. I can almost guarantee you that you have heard this song at some point in your life but then discarded it to the very back of your mind. Hopefully this'll bring it crashing to your frontal lobes once more...

With it's re-release in 2003, Eple became Röyksopp's biggest UK chart hit, although it was only a lowly #16. These guys really deserve more recognition over here, and having provided the world with quality music for the last decade it really does baffle me. I would also recommend listening to "Happy Up Here", "This Must Be It", "What Else Is There?", "Poor Leno", "It's What I Want"...
