The Naked And Famous - Eyes

For the electro-minded music lover, New Zealand has become such a fascinating place in the past couple of years. With lots of the latest synth kids hitting the scene coming lately from down under (Australia's also a big culprit) it seems that there's been a contamination of the water there. I say contamination, but that sounds negative. Infiltra..no...Infest..no..Well, you get the idea. And it's wonderful.

Take for example The Naked And Famous, the forerunning Kiwi keyboard kids (but not of 88) have been making waves over in the West for nearly a year now, and with their bigger hits "Young Blood" and "Punching In A Dream" notching up millions of YouTube hits and their tour dates selling out regardless of location or time, it seems things keep going from strength to strength for them.

Not to mention the blindingly obvious fact that "Passive Me, Agressive You", their début album from last year, is a stunning hodge-podge of more radio-friendly beats with some guitar-slash sound-clash and grungier keyboard stabs thrown into the mix. For me, one of the highlights of this album is "Eyes", the 80s throwback with distant reverbs and dreamy half-there vocals from frontman and woman Thom Powers and Alisa Xayalith (note to self, change surname for instant coolness), really shows what these guys can do, and it's with songs like these, as well as hugely euphoric songs like hit "Young Blood" that promise them a bright future.

On the subject of Kiwi electro, check out Kids of 88 and Computers Want Me Dead. You shant be disappointed.
