Battles - Ice Cream
Another band that appears to be basking in the creative light that the summer brings, American math rock trio Battles' lead single from their latest album "Gloss Drop" (which I personally find has a strangely attractive cover) takes its inspiration from everyone's favourite Italian frozen dessert. A very competitve market.
Having lost their lead singer, Tyondai Braxton, in pursuit of solo success, the remaining members of Battles have drafted in equally brilliantly-named Matias Aguayo to take up the helm for this song. With jabbing guitar bursts and an eccentric video to accompany the jerky melody, Ice Cream is a rather unusual, yet satisfying listening experience, however it may not be to everyone's taste (har har).
Check it out, personally I think it builds wonderfully and, while it is a bit strange to get your head around, once it clicks it's definitely worth listening to.
